My business is called Avina By Nature because Avina is my last name (which means from the oat field) and it is truly a family affair. I wouldn’t have this business if it wasn’t for my daughter. Almost 5 years ago my family was sent on a journey with my daughter and her health. She was finally diagnosed with Fructose Intolerance at age 9 after years of being told it was IBS and her body almost completely shut down. Okay, so learning how to read labels for corn syrup and completely changing our eating habits was hard but nothing compared to what would happen next. My daughters body was so messed up with all of the damage to her intestines that she also had GERDS (Gastric esophagus reflux disorder syndrome) and was placed on a very popular medication. This medication we did not know at the time also had an antihistamine in it that was helping with allergies that we had no clue she had. Two years later my family was moving to the next step of being healthy and found a chiropractor that taught how to repair the body without medications. He had helped my husband, my son, me and was now working on my daughter. He told us that we needed to get her off the medications and rebuild her immune system along with her intestines. Well, this is where the shock and feeling very helpless as a mother comes in. We took her off the medication and she was doing just fine... we thought. Two weeks to the day we took her off she broke out in welts and a terrible rash. This is where it gets a little tricky I took her to the doctor and they put her on another antihistamine that made her sleep and did nothing for her rash. I went to a health food store and was so confused on what lotion to buy I did what any mother would do yes I bought five bottles that were all recommended by the nice lady at the store. I rushed home and put one lotion on my daughter and she screamed because it burned so like any GREAT mom would do I had her try all five. Finally my daughter says that she thinks that there must be something in the lotions that are burning her. My daughter was right. The preservatives mixed with alcohol was creating a reaction . This led my daughter and I to the computer to research the big words we couldn’t pronounce. There were words like Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Imidazolidinyl Urea, and more. It was scary to find out that these preservatives say to NOT USE on skin that is sensitive, cracked or cut open. I looked up remedies on the computer to give her relief and found many. We first tried olive oil with beeswax which worked but would go rancid quickly. Finally, with research and trying recipe after recipe I came up with Indulge My Body Butter. We did go to an allergist doctor who confirmed that my daughter had Contact Dermatitis, Eczema and allergies to many animals including chicken feathers which actually was to blame for the welts. You see her job was to go into the chicken house to gather the chicken eggs and as long as she was on that popular medication it helped her allergies. It was actually a great lesson to learn because now she is much more aware of the signs her body is giving her. I do believe this was a path that I was being led down by God. I was at a point in my life where my kids were getting older and my husband’s eye sight was getting worse and college was just not working for me. I had prayed for several months and of course it is all in God’s time. My products are inspired by my family and friends and I DO NOT TEST ON ANIMALS nope... it is KID tested and approved! Although, if my dog Wess could talk he would say that the Lavender Body Butter is his favorite especially for cuts.
